Colon cancer screening
With an early colon cancer screening, it is possible to detect colon polyps and cancers in the colon. This can help in detecting problems and initiation of early treatments before further development. It is recommended to have regular screening as this reduces risks of complication which can come as a result of colorectal cancer. We offer several ways of cancer screening, these include stool tests to check whether there is stool on the blood, the common tests are fecal occult blood test (FOBT), Fecal immunochemical test (FIT), there is also colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, capsule endoscopy among others.
It is recommended to have a colonoscopy for every ten years when you get to the age of 45 years. FOBT or FIT can be done every year if the colonoscopy test positive, stool DNA can be done after one or three years if colonoscopy results are positive. Sigmoidoscopy is recommended after every five to ten years and virtual colonoscopy being done after every five years. If you are a person with specific risk factors you may need to start screening earlier and more frequently than those with low risk.

The common risk factors include family history, personal history of polyps and colorectal cancer and past incidences of chronic inflammatory bowel diseases. We will access your risks and determine the level of screening that is required.
